 | I thoroughly enjoy working with wood. It all started at senior school where you did woodwork for six months then metal work for the other six months. It wasn't until the latter part of schooling that you had to choose between one or the other. I chose woodwork. It is a great material to work with and you get results much quicker than working with metal.
I remember making a nut to fit on the end of a fire scraper out of a piece of metal, drilling a hole and then filing the corners to make the shape into a hexagonal. It took ages.
From there on, I purchased a lathe and the bug bit well and truly.
As time went on, working in isolation I ran out of ideas. The internet is great for getting new things to make, but even better, I joined a wood turners club. I would recommend to any would be woodturner, join a club first. The interaction, the tips I have learned and the friendships I have made have been wonderful. Let their help and experience guide you to choose your first lathe and set of tools.
